UPDATED: A suspected illegal immigrant has been found hiding in a coach at Fishbourne ferry terminal on the Isle of Wight this evening (Friday).
The discovery was made when the driver of a Kardan Travel coach opened up the lower luggage compartment to remove alighting passengers’ bags.
It is understood that the coach arrived on the Island via Wightlink’s Portsmouth to Fishbourne route having undertaken a trip to Austria. The coach returned to the UK via the Channel Tunnel in France.
Police were called to the scene and detained the male, who was taken to Newport Police Station.
Home Office Immigration officials are thought to have been informed about the discovery.
UPDATE MONDAY – Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that a Male was arrested shortly after 20:00 on Friday on suspicion of an immigration offence.
Border Force have taken over the case and are dealing with the detained individual.
