A new yellow weather warning has been issued for the Isle of Wight, with forecasters saying that up to 30mm of rain could fall this afternoon (Friday).
IW Met Service says that a large area of rain will affect the Island throughout the day, although during this afternoon some embedded downpours are likely to develop, perhaps bringing thunder and lightning to our shores.
Whilst not everywhere will see the heaviest rainfall, some places may well see accumulations of 20-30mm falling in a fairly short space of time.
Islanders are being warned about the risk of flash flooding and surface water on roads, leading to hazardous driving conditions.
Polluted stormwater could well affect some of the Island’s beaches too.
A yellow weather warning for strong gales has already been issued for tomorrow, which has led to the postponement of a number of key events such as IW Pride, Warrior Festival, Lionheart Festival and Blackgang’s Sunset Sessions.
