Ed Hawkins emerged as the standout competitor at this year’s Isle of Wight Sheepdog Trials, claiming victory on both days of the annual event despite challenging weather conditions over the weekend.
A total of 50 competitors ran on Saturday’s trial, judged by Mike Dowden from Glastonbury, with Hawkins taking top spot with a score of 93.
Kevin Dodd finished 2nd on 82 points, while Logan Williams was 3rd with 81OLF. Hawkins also secured 4th place on 81 points, ahead of Williams in 5th on 79 and Dodd in 6th with 78 OLFD.
On Sunday, with 48 competitors taking part under judge Philip Davies-Russell, Hawkins and his dog Jock again came out on top with a score of 89.
Selena Short and Kerry were 2nd with 83 points, followed by Sophie Mills and Betti on 82. Grace Gower and Sweep finished 4th on 81, with Devlin Presland and Nap 5th and Carol Worgan and Blackjack 6th – also on 81 points.
Organisers have since thanked the committee, sponsors and volunteers who worked behind the scenes to make the event happen.
Strong winds on Saturday meant the event could not be opened to the public, with safety concerns forcing organisers to make the decision.
Special thanks have been given to Richard Salter, who positioned his Cattlemotor at the end of the marquee to provide protection from the strong winds. Organisers believe the action helped save the structure from damage.
The car park team was also praised for its efforts throughout the weekend, although organisers say additional volunteers are needed for future events.
The committee has thanked everyone who supported Mountbatten Hospice, with all proceeds to be donated to the Isle of Wight charity.
Next year’s Isle of Wight Sheepdog Trials will take place on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th June 2027.
