A popular line dancing group is raising funds to open a new venue in Newport – bringing country music, classes and community together under one roof.
Grace Richardson, founder of the Long Island Stompers, has launched a fundraising campaign to secure and renovate a dedicated space for both modern line dancing and live country music. The group, which began just 3 years ago, now has over 1,000 members across the Isle of Wight.
Despite the strong following, Long Island Stompers currently operate in shared spaces across the area. Grace says the time has come to take the next step and create a permanent base that offers regular daily classes for all abilities – as well as a welcoming venue for local bands to perform without high hire fees.
Grace Richardson, Founder, has said:
“We’ve built an incredible community and now we’re ready to give it a home.
“We’ve found the perfect venue in Newport, accessible by public transport and with plenty of parking. But like so many community-led projects, the challenge is the cost.
“Our goal is to offer more classes, more live music, and a social hub for everyone who loves country music – even if they’ve never danced before.”
The project will require significant upfront funding. Rent alone is expected to cost £3,500 per month, not including utilities or staffing. The money raised will go toward securing the lease, covering business rates, and renovating the venue to support music, dancing, and community events.
So far, more than £400 has been raised toward the initial £3,500 target.
Grace added:
“This is about more than just dancing. It’s about creating a new venue for the Isle of Wight that celebrates music, movement and community spirit.
“If you love country music, dancing, or just want to support something positive and local – we’d love your help.”
