2 greater black backed chicks were saved from near certain death with the assistance of Friends of the Animals on Sunday (25th May).
Friends of the Animals were called by 2 cleaners from Fresh Start Cleaning Services, who found 2 chicks down a drain where they were going to put their waste water at a premises on the industrial estate in Newport.
The two gulls turned out to be Greater Black Backed chicks, who have been red listed by the RSPB. The chicks are believed to have fallen down the drain and managed to survive a very steep fall.
The animal charity requested the assistance of Claire at Skippers Sanctuary, who agreed to take them into her care.
Helen Luff from Friends of the Animals commented:
“This was an amazingly lucky find by 2 caring cleaners that literally saved their lives.”

Well done to Friends of the animals.
