A popular free community event celebrating classic vehicles and maritime heritage is set to return to the Isle of Wight this Summer, with Cowes Classics Day taking place on Sunday 7th June.
Organised by the Royal London Yacht Club, the annual event will once again be held on The Parade in Cowes, bringing together more than 50 vintage cars and classic boats for residents and visitors to enjoy.
Attendees will have the chance to meet owners, learn about the history of the vehicles on display and discover how they are maintained. Steam Pinnace No 199, a 50ft steam vessel originally launched in 1912 and now part of the National Museum of the Royal Navy, is also set to return to Trinity Landing.
Entries are now open for classic car owners wishing to take part, with registration costing £10. This includes a voucher for a bacon roll and hot drink on arrival, as well as discounted ferry travel with event partner Red Funnel. Applications can be made via www.cowesclassicsregatta.org/classicsday/classic-car-registration
The event is supported by Cowes Town Council and promises a range of entertainment and refreshment stalls throughout the day, catering for all ages. On the water, classic yachts competing in the Cowes Classics Regatta will add to the spectacle.
Visitors can also take advantage of reduced price day return travel from Southampton and discounted car ferry bookings through Red Funnel. More details can be found at www.redfunnel.co.uk/cowesclassicsday
Julia Pettit, Event Chair, has said:
“There will be more information about Cowes Classics Day over the next 3 months, and we look forward to welcoming everyone to The Parade.
“With thanks to our sponsors there will be plenty of entertainment throughout the day.”
Cowes Classics Regatta, now in its 20th year, continues to attract a wide range of traditional yachts competing across the Solent, alongside a programme of social events ashore. Always a great event, much better than seeing boy & girl racers
speeding around the island.
