Former Visit Isle of Wight chief executive Will Myles has resurfaced in a new tourism role just months after stepping down amid mounting pressure over the Island’s tourism downturn.
It has been announced that Mr Myles has joined the Blackpool Tourism team as Head of VisitBlackpool.
In the role, he will act as the principal ambassador for Blackpool with VisitEngland, VisitBritain and industry partners, with a focus on boosting the resort’s economic impact and strengthening relationships with stakeholders.
His responsibilities will include the planning, promotion and delivery of major resort events, overseeing destination marketing campaigns and driving year-round visitor growth, particularly increasing overnight stays.
Mr Myles resigned from Visit Isle of Wight in November last year following criticism over the state of the Island’s tourism sector and concerns raised by businesses within the industry.
As previously reported by Island Echo, pressure had been mounting over falling visitor numbers and wider concerns about the direction of tourism promotion on the Isle of Wight.
Did he do a good job on the island!

WILL MYLES – The unfortunate architect of his own demise.
His name would be better known here as ‘WON’T’ Miles instead of WILL.
The downturn of the IOW’s tourism is specifically due to the mode of transport being offered to potential visitors to the island in the 21st century:
– Expensive ferry transport.
– Unreliable ferry transport.
– Slow ferry transport.
– booking hassles
– waiting hassles
– etc.
WILL wouldn’t address these issues because the ferry companies control tourism as it is today. WILL wouldn’t upset the gatekeepers and therefore he wouldn’t address the situation.
WILL’s hands were tied.
Good luck in your next job WILL. Your last one on the IOW was an impossible task. Your replacement has the same issues…

Will Myles was not able to do that on the Isle of Wight but, somehow, manages to get another position. It will be interesting to see how he does in another area.
