The Footprint Trust has for the first time heavily criticised the Government over its lack of action over the pending massive energy bill rises.
Consumers on the Isle of Wight will be faced with energy bill rises of up to £600 from April this year.
Martin Lewis speaking recently on ITV’s Good Morning Britain programme highlighted the forthcoming price hike, the biggest jump for decades caused by global wholesale price increases.
The situation has led to over twenty energy companies going bust.
There have been calls for the government to soften the blow for householders by cutting VAT and government-enforced environmental and social obligation costs charged on domestic bills, which make up around 15% of the average bill.
Speaking on behalf of the Trust their General Manager and senior energy officer said:
“The government is not to blame for the international crises, but it does have time to act now, to prevent thousands of Islanders falling into fuel poverty. Hundreds of people here are already turning off the heat and sitting in cold damp homes, this will turn into thousands next winter, unless action is taken now.”
“The government has a number of options, which could include increasing the Warm Home Discount and suspending VAT on energy bills, it could also choose to remove or reduce the green social tariff and to fund such measures out of general taxation.”
“In the meantime, householders need to insulate their homes, and replace old inefficient appliances and get into the habit to turning things off. We urge anyone who is concerned to contact us on 822282 for guidance and help.”
Get rid of the Green Tariff, it is about 53% of your total energy bill on gas.
Fail and wrong!
90% of energy substitutes goes to nuclear. Renewables are the cheapest form of energy. Also renewables allows us to get free of the petrodollar and Russian gas. But if you prefer being the 52nd state of the US keep on believing your oil lies.
If you are looking at the “official energy industry figures” then shame on you. Still as long as your happy keeping the rich happy by funding the heat pumps they are rushing to have installed with the grants, then so be it. ( Anyone can get a grant ! ) but only the rich will try because of the rest of the cost of fitting a heat pump.
According to the Daily Telegraph today the Government is predicted to make an extra £1 billion just from the VAT we will be paying on our higher energy bills. An extra one billion pounds on top of what they usually get.
No wonder they don’t want to do anything about prices going sky high then!
Energy companies may not have control over what they are charged by energy suppliers but why are they allowed to increase the daily standing charge astronomically.this adds to the misery of higher energy bills even more
Obviously e
The mp’s don’t give a toss about the public, they get their £83,000 a year for occasionally gracing the commons with their presence whilst behaving like undisciplined schoolchildren during debates and far from representing their constituents are only riddled with self interest and utter arrogance prefering to lie to the public to achieve their own aims.
A good start would be to stop the standing charges… that would easily be 50 pence per day plus.. £3.50 week.. what is it for ? Certainly not to pay for any repairs as when things go wrong the customer has to pay.. my meters are indoors, why can I not charge them for using up my space, let them rent the space or put their meters outside.. but also not on my walls.
Good idea, rent them the wall space for meters, water included if within your boundary, surprised no one has challenged them with this yet.
