The Isle of Wight Foodbank has received both food donations and £340 in funds following a concert by the Newchurch Male Voice Choir and soprano Lucy Hinkley at Christchurch, Sandown earlier this month (6th September).
Audience members were asked to bring an item of food as their entry fee before enjoying an evening of music. The choir performed a varied programme, with highlights including The Lost Chord and Morte Cristie, which were accompanied by Christchurch’s organ played by Alan Finch.
Lucy Hinkley delighted the audience with songs from Gilbert & Sullivan and well-known show tunes, while a surprise duet between Alan Finch and Richard Knowles saw the pair perform Music of the Night from Phantom of the Opera.
Heather Bentley, the choir’s accompanist and a volunteer at the Sandown branch of the Isle of Wight Foodbank, spoke to the audience about the work of the charity and the increasing number of people who are relying on its services.
Bob Cooper, representing the choir, has said:
“To be able to support the groups on the Isle of Wight that are providing much needed support to keep them giving the service to the public that they do, is the choir’s pleasure and to see the resulting food donations plus the retiring collection amount enhances that pleasure.”
