The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for the Isle of Wight coast for tomorrow afternoon (Wednesday).
It is said that a higher than normal tide at lunchtime can be expected due to unsettled weather with strong Southerly Force 5 winds and large waves. The weather increases tide table values by 0.63m.
For 1 hour either side of high water, very minor impact flooding will affect some seafront roads, esplanades and car parks across the Island.
Water will be high up slipways in Cowes, affecting Medina Road and the floating bridge. It is said that the tide may rise to be only 0.1m below the top of front door steps. In East Cowes, water forced up through drains may cause minor impacts to the road at Albany Road.
During the early hours of Thursday morning, the tide levels will remain elevated.
Currently, the Environment Agency says that property flooding is unlikely but further advice will be issued tomorrow.
The news follows after a wind warning was issued for tomorrow, as previously reported by Island Echo.
What you should consider doing now
- Monitor local water levels and weather conditions
- Get ready to act on your flood plan if you have one
- Move cars or other vehicles to higher ground, if it is safe to do so
- Check that you know how to turn off your gas, electricity and water mains supplies
- Avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water. 30cm of fast-flowing water can move a car and 6 inches can knock an adult off their feet
- Flood water is dangerous and may be polluted. Wash your hands thoroughly if you've been in contact with it

Great report but no mention of high tide times ?
The item may have been updated but it now says high tide at mid day.
That is normally taken to mean 12 o’clock.
This global cooling is getting worse…..
Careful the gullible don’t like you to think anything OTHER than what the BBC bombards you with.
Schools are fed the same tripe, and every modern programme has to mention global warming and immigrants now.
Yet pre all this we happily ‘managed’ with wildly varying weather and only a handful of immigrants as we would still should neither events occurred.
What a pair of morons. Do some research before spouts your “tripe”.
Without carbon nothing will grow you idiot, stop covering our land with concrete and plant more trees….Trees and other plants thrive on carbon, so why don’t you go to China and protest there, idiot….
Force 5 ???? you might want to check the shipping forecast, their giving force 8 to 9
Well said & the tides are higher at the end of the week, and at the weekend
for gods sake – look it up for your specific ares
oh no it will affect the floating bridge, quick pull it out of service………
It already is!!!
