The Environment Agency (EA) has issued a flood alert for the St Johns area of Ryde this afternoon (Thursday). Heavy and intense rain has fallen across the Island this afternoon, but Ryde has recorded some 20mm in just 4 hours. From 17:00 this evening flooding of the railway tracks, upstream of St Johns Station may occur but flooding of the station buildings or property is not expected. The Monktonmead Brook is expected to peak at around 21:00 this evening. Just 30 minutes earlier, as previously reported by Island Echo, a flood alert for the Lukely Brook in Newport was also issued.
