Flooding on Bowcombe RoadHeavy rain resulting in flooding is causing major disruption across the Isle of Wight this afternoon (Thursday), with a flood warning issued for the Lukely Brook in Newport. Torrential downpours have battered the Island since lunchtime and with there currently no sign of things letting up the Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for the Lukely Brook. They say that in the last 3 hours, a total of 18mm of rain has fallen meaning that there is a possibility the river could come out of bank at Foxes Lane and premises around Vicarage Walk Heavy rain falling on the already saturated Lukely Brook and Gunville stream catchments, has caused the river to rise rapidly, with the deluge to continue to affect the area over the next 4 hours, with up to 5mm of additional rain expected. As a precautionary measure, those with properties immediately next to the river at Vicarage Walk to take action to protect property. Meanwhile, on the roads, flash flooding is affecting many major routes including on Forest Road, Fairlee Road, Rowborough Lane, Whitwell Road, Canteen Road, through Godshill, the A3056 in Blackwater, the A3020 through Sandford, and many more. The scene on High Street Brading Those heading in and out of East Cowes are being advised of flooding on Whippingham Road with its junction with Alverstone Road. Collingwood Road in Shanklin has been completely closed, with those inside the Royal British Legion trapped having to wade through deep water as they exit the establishment, whilst Island Echo understands that a tree has fallen on Middle Road just past Wilmingham Lane – for the 2nd time in just as many months. Drivers are urged to drive with care during the adverse weather. UPDATE @ 16:30– A flood alert has also been issued for the St Johns area of Ryde.
