The floating bridge between Cowes and East Cowes is currently suspended this morning (Friday) after a breakdown.
It is understood the controversial vessel broke down yesterday evening (Thursday) with cars still on board.
Since then a passenger-only launch service has been in place.
There has been no official word from the Isle of Wight Council as to what the problem is and how long it will be until normal service is resumed.
UPDATE @ 13:00 – The floating bridge is now up and running once again.
A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Council has said:
“There has been an issue with the Floating Bridge’s software systems.
“The Floating Bridge underwent testing this morning and has now returned to service.
Article continues below this advertisement “No vehicles or passengers were on board when the service was suspended last night.”
What do you mean, until normal service is resumed. This is the normal service, unreliable. Hope the council is reimbursing all those who lost wages this morning due to arriving late.
If there was an award for the most useless and inept piece of equipment in the UK, and possibly the world, this heap of junk would surely win it.
Well – this is news indeed. There is always a first time for everything.
I suppose the day had to come when this marvellous vessel finally had a problem that disrupted the service.
It has been operating for so long without trouble.

White elephant since the old one (which is still in use elsewhere) was removed. Expect the next breakdown will be end of May – another BH, such a useless service. Not fit for purpose.

The gift that just keeps giving, i wish this useless council would have the spine to end this fiasco once and for all and get rid of it, but it is so easy to waste others money isn’t it
I actually like the boat, it’s way faster to embark and disembark, would be happy with just it 😀
That’s fine, however it’s like saying my new car is brilliant, however it keeps breaking down and does not work for days or weeks at a time and takes weeks to get repaired and costs a fortune each time in finding alternative transport. But when it works I love it.
