Firefighters from around the Island have responded to a 999 call from Alverstone this afternoon, where a kitchen fire broke out.
It was at around 16:00 that emergency services were seen heading to the domestic fire that is said to have originated in the Kitchen of the property in a small close off Woods Drive called The Paddock.
In total, 4 fire appliances from Newport, Shanklin, Ventnor and Ryde, as well as a fire officer, attended the incident off Alverstone Road, where the blaze has now been extinguished.
The close has been cordoned off; however, access to Woods Drive and Alverstone Road remains unaffected.
Island Echo understands that residents as well as their dogs were able to evacuate the property, avoiding any injury.
UPDATE @ 16:15 – A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has said:
“The fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault with a freezer. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the blaze using hose reel jets.
Article continues below this advertisement “Approximately 40 per cent of the property was damaged by fire, with around 90 per cent affected by smoke.”
With residents as well as their dogs able to evacuate the property and avoid any injury, the stop message was received at 17:20.
