Retained firefighters are working to extinguish a bonfire which has spread to a hedge off Military Road near Chale this evening (Wednesday).
1 fire appliance from Ventnor was mobilised to the incident after a 999 call reported the developing situation at around 17:15.
A water carrier from Freshwater is now en-route to the scene following a request for more water due to the remote rural location.
UPDATE @ 18:16 – The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service is on scene at the former Atherfield Holiday Park site, opposite Chine Lane. The area is being redeveloped for housing.
It’s been confirmed that a bonfire spread to a hedge but the situation now appears to be under control.
