The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has been in attendance at a fire in the open in Northwood Park this morning (Monday).
The retained appliance was called to the scene at 08:37 where a hedgerow and section of grass in the park, approximately 40 metres by 1 metre in size, was found to be well alight.
Firefighters used pitchforks and a hosereel jet to extinguish the fire, which has caused significant damage to the ornate hedgerow which separates the bowling green from the main public areas of the park.
The blaze is thought to have been started by a misused and recklessly disposed of firework – with the charred remnants of the casing being found within the burnt area of hedge.

On the way to school, presumably. We seem to be descending into a normality of feral behaviour.
