A hedge fire in Shanklin brought Island Line trains to a stand still last night (Thursday).
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called to the County Ground at Green Lane at just before 20:30 following reports of a fire developing in a hedge row and spreading fast.
Crews from Sandown and Shanklin were mobilised to the scene, later backed up by a water carrier from Ventnor.
A local resident attempted to fight the fire using a hose pipe prior to the arrival of fire crews but the trains were still live, posing a safety risk.
Firefighters soon put a halt to the trains and were able to swiftly tackle the small blaze measuring 20m x 5m.
