FIRE SERVICE CALLED TO SEVENACRES OVER PATIENT CONCERN

imageFirefighters from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have this evening (Saturday) attended Sevenacres Mental Health Unit over fears for the welfare of a patient  – the second time in a week.

An aerial appliance, the service’s rescue tender and an appliance from Newport Fire Station were called to the mental health unit on the grounds of St Mary’s Hospital at just before 23:00. Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were also called to the scene.

Island Echo understands a patient gained access to the roof of the building and was causing concern, however has successfully been brought to safety.

This latest incident comes exactly a week after a similar situation occurred, leading to questions being asked over the security of the unit.

Emergency services left the scene at 11:25.
