Firefighters are responding to a kitchen fire at a property in Northwood near Cowes this afternoon (Monday).
A wholetime crew from Newport are currently on scene at Newport Road where smoke is billowing from the detached building – thought to be emanating from the garage.
2 more appliances are responding to the incident as well as the command unit from Newport.
The road has been closed in both directions.
UPDATE @ 16:30 – The blaze has been contained and extinguished with 1 female casualty taken to hospital.
4 pumps, an aerial ladder platform and the Incident Command Unit are all on scene alongside Police and Paramedics.
Crews are now making up their equipment in preparation of leaving the scene.
The road remains closed but is expected to reopen shortly.

Well done to all emergency services involved. Let’s hope the same police investigators who were at Ventnor seafront two weeks ago do their stuff. If so, all will be well and nothing will be suspicious. Even if the fire brigade tells everyone it is ‘classis arson.’
