Emergency services are in attendance in Whippingham this morning (Friday) where at least 3 vehicles have been involved in a crash.
The incident has taken place on the main road in and out of East Cowes, close to the junction with Alverstone Road.
Island Echo is told 1 of the vehicles is on its side.
2 fire appliances from Newport have been mobilised to the scene with fire control confirming they were alerted to the incident at 06:38.
UPDATE @ 07:38 – 3 vehicles have been involved in the incident – a Peugeot 206, a Dacia and another car.
Despite one of the vehicles coming to rest on its side and another sustaining significant impact damage, the occupants of all 3 cars have escaped with minor injuries, according to Police.
Whippingham Road has now been re-opened for all traffic heading into East Cowes. All outbound traffic is still being diverted via Brook Copse Road to Wootton.
Investigations into the cause of the accident are underway, but it is thought the wet road conditions may have had a part to play. The incident has taken place when the speed limit changes from national to 50mph.
Recovery of the 3 vehicles has been arranged and the road is expected to re-open once this has been completed.
Police and paramedics remain on scene, but fire crews have now stood down and returned to station.

Some drivers are completely ignorant to wet weather. These people need to be re-educated. Glad to hear there have been no serious injuries or worse!
One less chav on the road!!
Hooray
Why is it police don’t have to wear hi- vis when stood in road construction workers utilities workers do strange
The answer is, He should be wearing it no excuses, lets hope he gets the right feedback from hi supervisors before he becomes a statistic.
It’s quite common to see our police at road incidents without wearing hi-viz. It seems to be the norm around the country judging by TV programmes like Traffic Cops. Standards seem to have slipped from my days.
They should, there themselves breakin health & safety rules? Old bill always break laws, thats why no one gives them respect as they take the piss? Its funny watching normal coppers act like road traffic police………know the law?!!
Why is it some people use no punctuation, even though it would make their message clearer? Strange.
oops, greasy roads today then.
Drive to the conditions, common sense really.
Not ‘from National to 50’ but ‘from 50 to National’ by the look of it, so inside the 50 limit !!
I wouldn’t call the roads wet this morning damp at best
Quite possibly another case of the car being pushed over its abilities by inexperienced drivers. I suspect that those low profile tyres on the nice expensive gold alloy rims are not made for fast acceleration on wet roads, as any experienced driver will know. Just glad no one was injured, but I would like to think that IF fault is found on anyone, then that person should be taught how to drive in damp and wet conditions. As we know, we have not had ANY rain to talk of and the hot conditions will cause both road surface and tyre rubber to melt, leaving a patch of no grip rubber/tar mix on our roads. Until it rains a lot our roads will remain slippy when moist or wet.
Hope the driver/owner of the car informed the Insurance company of any modifications to their vehicle
Items like that are best left to the insurance assesor to judge and resolve.
Are those not standard 206 GTi alloys sprayed bronze. It looks pretty standard to me
Wondering if speeding caused this accident? My guess is yes. What a lot of people are not aware of, when we have not had rain for a long time and the weather is hot, when it does rain the tarmac becomes slippery. Oops, watch out all you speed freaks, your car will end up looking like the ploppy Peugeot or worse. Hope the innocent drivers are ok and not too shaken.
I’ve seen that 207 with gold wheels many times before, let’s say the style of driving was a tad aggressive.
It was a new car to the driver he only got it the day before. So please find out all the facts before you speculate!
Even more reason for the driver to be driving sensibly and with extra caution, if he is not used to driving the car!
Here here
@Elle, I stand by comment and the fact that it’s been written off within 24 hours of getting a new owner says even more about the new owner and his command of his new vehicle.
Gotta remember Elle, any knob can drive a car fast but unfortunately that does not mean they are a GOOD driver. This accident proves that don’t you think. Slow down, island roads are not a race track. I used to travel the M4 corridor each day to work so driving in all conditions safely, I know all about.
Alright then mouth almighty what was e cause? I don’t give a monkeys what day he or she got it look what they’ve caused, cheeky runt coming on here defending the little mug. Come on big balls give us facts then
This ‘New Normal’ is already looking very much like the ‘Old Normal’!
Now let’s stop
And look at the rims on the said car shall we… Boy racer mmm no can’t be
The driver of the car with the gold wheels might not have caused the incident!
But someone had a talent failure.
Regular retraining, has to happen some time soon.
