A car has left the road and crashed into a tree on Brading Downs this morning (Wednesday), but fortunately the driver has escaped any serious injury.
The incident – which has involved just 1 vehicle, a Fiat 500 – occurred at just before 08:45.
1 fire appliance from Ryde, Police and paramedics were all mobilised to the scene on the stretch of road between the junctions with Ashey Road and Bully’s Hill, near to the lay-bys.
It’s understood that a medical episode is to blame, with the driver conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital for further investigations.
No offences have been identified.
Recovery of the wreckage is underway with Brading Downs Road currently blocked in both directions as a result.
UPDATE @ 10:07 – The vehicle, with heavy front end damage, has now been recovered and the road has reopened as normal.

In general people know they have a medical issue… so why was this person allowed to be driving ?? Obviously was not going to kill anyone.. or self… no never…
Do people think driving around knowing one could have a medical attack at any time is okay ?? Does the DVLA know of the drivers condition ?? Probably not..

No known medical condition, young healthy 18 year old, blacked out at the wheel, wasn’t speeding, just a freak accident. So before you judge which from your comment you do a lot…stop and think, for all you know the person driving could have died.
