A Newport-based nursery and cafe has taken to social media to appeal for information after it was reported to have been targeted by thieves last night (Tuesday).
In a post on Facebook, the owners of Forest View Nursery explained that upon arriving at the nursery – located on the busy Forest Road – this morning (Wednesday), they discovered that 2 parts of the business’s metal perimeter fence had been cut.
A further inspection by staff revealed that along with the damage, which was thought to have been caused by bolt cutters, several large palms had been taken from within the compound. According to Forest View Nursery, the palms, technically known as Trachycarpus, are known to be heavy and would most likely have required at least two people to move them.
A member of the family-run Forest View Nursery team said:
“We are a small local business who (like everyone) has suffered from the effects of Covid19. This is a really sad state of affairs which at this tough time, we can’t quite believe someone would do.”
The incident, along with suspected evidence left behind at the scene, has been reported to the Police.
Island Echo has approached Hampshire Constabulary for a comment.
