FENCE CUT AND ITEMS STOLEN AS SUSPECTED THIEVES STRIKE NEWPORT NURSERY

Published:

A Newport-based nursery and cafe has taken to social media to appeal for information after it was reported to have been targeted by thieves last night (Tuesday).

In a post on Facebook, the owners of Forest View Nursery explained that upon arriving at the nursery – located on the busy Forest Road – this morning (Wednesday), they discovered that 2 parts of the business’s metal perimeter fence had been cut.

A further inspection by staff revealed that along with the damage, which was thought to have been caused by bolt cutters, several large palms had been taken from within the compound. According to Forest View Nursery, the palms, technically known as Trachycarpus, are known to be heavy and would most likely have required at least two people to move them.

A member of the family-run Forest View Nursery team said:

“We are a small local business who (like everyone) has suffered from the effects of Covid19. This is a really sad state of affairs which at this tough time, we can’t quite believe someone would do.”

The incident, along with suspected evidence left behind at the scene, has been reported to the Police.

Island Echo has approached Hampshire Constabulary for a comment.

This is awful.
All businesses have had such a hard time this last year and this is a small family run nursery who will have to bear the loss.
Hopefully someone must know where the large trees (that take two to move) are today.

Hope they are caught.

Someone must see these being offered for sale or maybe on a suspicious vehicle. Mindless and criminal behaviour like this has no place inn a civilised society. When will they get the message that it is not acceptable.
i really hope they are caught and given a realistic punishment and that their vehicles is impounded.
I hope someone reports them to Police and they have to compensate the nursery if they are caught.
Businesses are having their worst time during the pandemic, this really is a kick in the teeth.
Dob them in..

Surely You’d need a truck/van/lorry to transport these ?! And if anyone notices the next door neighbours have an instant new garden ? Not exactly inconspicuous. No cctv anywhere along that road ?
