Strong winds that are battering the Solent for the 4th day running have led to the suspension of Wightlink’s Fastcat service, Red Funnel’s Red Jet service and Hovertravel’s Ryde-Southsea service today (Monday).
Due to ongoing high winds, it has been necessary for Red Funnel to suspend its West Cowes-Southampton Red Jet until further notice. The cross-Solent operator says that an update will be provided at 16:00 this afternoon.
In Ryde, Wightlink has suspended its FastCat service between Ryde Pier Head and Portsmouth Harbour. The next sailing is expected to be the 15:15 from Portsmouth.
Hovertravel’s Ryde-Southsea service is also suspended and is not expected to resume anytime soon.
It’s ok everyone. There are no storms. A bloke down the pub said global warning is a lie. So all these storms we’re having that are braking records must all be a lie too.
Sorry Fred how do you spell braking?
What gets me about the UK is every year we have an inch of snow and everything shuts down. We have 24hrs of rain and everything floods. We have blue skies in summer for maybe a week and it’s called a heat wave and there’s a hosepipe ban. Can the UK actually handle ANY weather condition? To say we were once the most advanced, creative and highly held nation on earth it’s pretty pathetic. Russia has 6ft of snow and continues as normal. The USA has storms 10 times the strength and it doesn’t even make the news. Meanwhile we have a few bins knocked over and everyone is in mass hysteria.
You have a point but then again you miss a point. There’s so many bloody people living on this tiny Island (the UK I mean) that it can’t cope with small disrupters.
Who keeps saying no to a tunnel or a bridge to the mainland?? Maybe time to rethink!!
You obviously didn’t read or hear of the disruption caused yesterday at Dartford then regarding your precious bridge/tunnel escape and the chaos it caused both sides Kent and Essex.
I would like to know why, this day and age, that there are not 24hr passenger ferries, ie: Hovercraft, Red Jet and Wightlink’s SLOW fast cat.. They all have running lights, they all have radar.. so why are there no return to Island ferries for passengers after about 9 pm.. ? People say use car ferry.. Great. No buses meet the over night car ferries.. especially Sunday Nights.. and no chance paying stupid taxi prices.. Surely there are Island people and tourists it would benefit.
So why ?
Not enough customer’s to cover wages and fuel. Even London underground has only just started this only on a couple of lines.
