A group of talented Year 13 Fashion and Textiles students showcased their final designs at a sold-out runway event hosted by Independent Arts earlier this month, drawing inspiration from insects and bioluminescence.
The students, from The Island VI Form, presented imaginative garments that transitioned from day to night, using glow-in-the-dark elements such as beading, threads and built-in lighting. The pieces explored the theme of insect transformation by night and were inspired by world-renowned designers including Galliano, McQueen and Van Herpen.
The show on Wednesday 18th June was not only a creative success but also raised over £220 for Independent Arts – a local charity that supports wellbeing and reduces social isolation across the Isle of Wight through the arts.
Course Leader Sarah Cox has said:
“I would like to congratulate this year’s cohort. The outcomes that they have produced this year are a reflection of the hard work and determination that they have shown throughout the whole of their course.
“They all really embraced the challenge of adding bioluminescence to their garments, and they all produced unique and stunning pieces. We are expecting extremely impressive results in the summer, and I am looking forward to seeing where their talents will take them in the future.”
Applications remain open for students interested in joining the Fashion and Textiles course this September. Both single and double award options are available, allowing flexibility for students to combine creative studies with other academic subjects.
