Emergency services are in attendance at a road traffic collision on the main road in Rookley this afternoon (Thursday).
Police, paramedics and a single fire appliance from Newport were called to the scene on the A3020 at around 15:45.
The incident has seen a Volvo Convertible collide with the rear of another vehicle opposite The Co-Op car park. The Swedish motor has sustained significant front end damage.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service – including the Enhanced Care Paramedic and Operational Commander -have worked to extract the individual from the vehicle, with the casualty now in the back of an ambulance receiving medical attention.
At this stage it is unclear as to how serious the injuries sustained by those involved are. Island Echo understands the driver of the Volvo was a pensioner with a walking stick seen being removed from the rear of the vehicle.
The road is currently under give and take at the scene of the incident with Police directing the traffic.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area until recovery is arranged.
UPDATE @ 16:59 – The casualty involved has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital.
UPDATE @ 17:10 – Recovery agents from Bartletts have arrived and have lifted the damaged vehicle from the scene. All emergency service personnel have left the scene and the road is clear once again.

Significant frontal damage is easy even at 15/20, but probably hit full on at 30mph. Not sure on circumstances are we !.
