EMERGENCY SERVICES CALLED TO CRASH IN COWES

UPDATED: Police, fire and ambulance crews are attending a road traffic collision on Newport Road, Cowes this afternoon (Tuesday).

2 fire appliances from Newport, 2 ambulances and multiple Police units are all on scene alongside officers from the ambulance and fire services.

Island Echo understands 2 vehicles have been involved in the collision. Persons are feared trapped.

Newport Road has been closed at the junction with Northwood Garage to Somerton roundabout.

UPDATE @ 16:13 – 2 persons have been described as ‘walking wounded’ following the crash between a Ford Focus and a Mercedes-Benz. The luxury white Mercedes has left the road and come to a stop in a hedge.

Fire crews have now stood down from the incident as no one is trapped in either vehicle, as first feared. Police remain on scene.

Newport Road has reopened to traffic heading north to Cowes but all southbound traffic is still being diverted via Three Gates Road. The southbound closure will remain in place until both vehicles have been recovered.

UPDATE @ 17:07 – The vehicles have been recovered by Stag Lane Motors allowing for the road to re-open in both directions.
