The volunteer crew of Bembridge RNLI lifeboat went to the aid of a 30ft motor cruiser with two crew on board last night (Sunday) after the vessel got into difficulties in foggy conditions.
At 19:00 the relief All Weather Lifeboat ‘Frank and Anne Wilkinson’ was launched at the request of Solent Coastguard to assist the ‘Starry Dancer’, which was en-route from Le Havre to Langstone Harbour. The vessel run into difficulties in the fog about 10 miles south of the Bembridge Ledge.
Just 30 minutes after launching the casualty vessel was located and an RNLI crew member quickly confirmed that the engine electrics were beyond local repair. A tow was secured and the Starry Dancer was towed to Langstone Harbour.
The lifeboat and her crew returned to Bembridge and rehoused by 22:30.
