The owners of Hewitt’s Restaurant in Newport are organising a charity eating competition next month that will see 10 contestants go head-to-head for numerous charitable causes.
The event, taking place in the restaurant’s garden on Sunday 10th August, will challenge participants to finish a full Sunday roast as quickly as possible. The winner will secure a £500 donation to the charity of their choice, while all remaining funds raised will be split between the other 9 nominated charities.
Dean and Josh have said that inspiration for the event came from customers occasionally asking to take on Hewitt’s generous sharing platters solo – sparking the idea of turning the concept into a charitable challenge.
All food costs are being covered by the restaurant, meaning every pound raised will go directly to local and national charities.
The competitors and their chosen charities are:
- Phil Long – Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance
- Harley Turner – Zoe’s Law
- Truan Magee – Men Only Isle of Wight
- Terry Dixon – Isle of Wight Foodbank
- Kieran Allen – Inclusion Isle of Wight
- Alex Hill – Mountbatten Isle of Wight
- Ian Selby – Ability Dogs 4 Young People
- CJ Westlake – British Heart Foundation
- Jack Faulds – CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably)
- Ryan Stevens – AIM (Autism Inclusion Matters)
The event has already received strong support from the local community, with live music set to be performed by Beth Lockhart and Andy Crabb. Decorations are being provided by Monroe Consultancy, among other contributors.
Dean and Josh, Hewitt’s Restaurant owners, have said:
“We’ve been blown away by the backing we’ve had from other businesses and performers.
“It’s shaping up to be an unforgettable day for a brilliant mix of causes that all deserve recognition and support.”
The competition is free to attend for spectators, with donations encouraged on the day. The event takes place on Sunday 10th August.
