St Helens Parish Council have re-opened the Duver’s public conveniences after extensive renovation and improvements, ahead of schedule, within budget and in advance of the Easter holidays.
The project has improved ventilation, lighting, restored the public refill water supply and has seen the replacement of cisterns, doors and other items that were not fit for purpose.
In addition, the project has also included improvements to the roof, pollarding of nearby trees, repainting of new doors and all walls, investment in drainage, an accessible toilet and signage.
Local contractors FW Marsh and Steve Hook Plumbing have helped deliver the project.
Parish Chairman Joe Robertson said:
“Thanks to Councillor Coleman and the project team for delivering this major community project, benefiting residents and visitors, as well as working with local businesses as part of the longer term Duver project.
“This has been the biggest investment made by the Parish Council, completed after extensive public engagement and support for prudent increases in the precept, which remains below the Island average”.
The Parish are also working on possible investments on the Duver beach, Church Green and environmental initiatives with local businesses, the Isle of Wight Council and the National Trust.
The toilets will be closed each evening.
