UPDATED: A man has been arrested and questioned on suspicion of drink driving following a crash between Wootton and Newport during the early hours of this morning (Saturday).
Police were called to Whiterails Road where it joins Staplers Road at 00:30 when members of the public discovered a crashed Nissan Micra sideways across the road.
The driver was uninjured in the smash, but failed a roadside breathalyser test. He was arrested by Police and taken to Newport Police Station for questioning.
Glass and other debris was cleared from the carriageway and the vehicle recovered, allowing the road to re-open and a number of Southern Vectis buses to continue on their way.
UPDATE @ 16:13 – 30-year-old Daniel Farrington of Buckingham Road, Ryde, has been charged with driving whilst over the prescribed limit (alcohol) and will appear before Magistrates on 17th July.
