More double yellow lines could be introduced in Gunville as part of permission for a 36-home development.
An economy, regeneration, transport and infrastructure committee (ERTIC) report recommends introducing ‘No Waiting at Any Time’ parking restrictions at parts of Forest Hills, Arthur Moody Drive, Broadwood Lane and Park Close.
The plans are based on an October 2022 conditional permission for developing land west of Forest Hills and Arthur Moody Drive which requires possible highway safety implications to be mitigated through a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO).
Double yellow lines are proposed at junctions between Forest Hills and Arthur Moody Drive, Broadwood Lane and Forest Hills and Park Close and Broadwood Lane, with a further segment on the Gunville Road end of Broadwood Lane.
County Hall’s report says:
“The proposal is aiming to ensure safety for all road users, while securing the movement of the increased traffic to and from the new development once it is built – by improving visibility at the junctions and regulating parking there where it is safe to do so.
“The total estimated cost of making the TRO, implementing the restriction and maintaining the respective double yellow lines for the next 12 years (end of our maintenance contract with Island Roads) is £5,369 of which £2,462 will be covered by the developer and £2,907 will be covered by the highways authority capital budget.
“The recommended option would have a positive financial impact by reducing the potential liability issues for the Isle of Wight Council as a highway authority, should collision occur in the locations included in the proposal.”
ERTIC will consider the proposed restrictions at its Thursday 19th March meeting.
