A dog has sadly perished after falling over the cliff edge at The Needles Battery, Alum Bay.
Coastguard Rescue Teams from The Needles and Ventnor were called to the battery at the most westerly point of the Isle of Wight at around 17:15.
A cliffman was lowered over the side of the high cliff to investigate the situation, but there is nothing that could be done to save the animal.
The family pet was recovered from the shoreline.
Coastguard Officers are reminding those walking near cliff edges to keep their dogs on leads at all times.
It was only Thursday evening that Coastguard teams were tasked to another dog over the cliff at Alum Bay, however the outcome of that was more positive.
