Coastguard teams from The Needles and Ventnor have rescued a dog at Alum Bay after initially being called out over fears a person was stuck on the cliff.
HM Coastguard were alerted to what was thought to be a person in difficulty in the most Westerly point of the Isle of Wight earlier on today (Thursday).
Upon arrival on scene of the first Coastguard Rescue Officers it was discovered that the person was in fact ok and was trying to rescue their dog that had fallen some 30ft.
In taking over the rescue efforts, the Coastguard successfully raised the dog to safety and prevented any further danger or injury to it’s owner.
Dog owners are being reminded to keep their much-loved pets on a lead when near cliff edges.
