A deceased seal has been discovered on a slipway in Bembridge this morning (Tuesday).
It’s thought the mammal came ashore late last night and crawled up the slipway at Paddock Drive before sadly passing away.
The large seal was discovered by members of the public enjoying daily exercise at sometime before 07:00.
Coastguard Rescue Officers from Bembridge have been out to document the discovery and the Isle of Wight Council have been alerted to arrange disposal.
Dog walkers in the area should keep their animals on leads and all individuals should keep a wide berth.

This is sad, but needs removing asap.
We don’t want lots of people risking their health by going near. If no obvious signs of injury we should be very wary of what it died of. Dogs could become infected if a virus. The whole area needs treating too.
Can’t be too careful now, and our sea life mammal’s may be able to catch CV, we have little info or tests as yet.
Avoid area, keep pets and people away.
Think I will avoid fish for a while until we here more.
Frank, seals beach themselves and was seen alive last night at 8 pm but “not well “ if you have nothing better to do but cause anxiety amoungst the community due to your clear scientific reasoning that marine life has not been tested yet , I got new for you pal , not have half the nhs …..personally I’m looking forward to Cid and chips when this is all over …… everyone …. ignore frank , franks a plank !!! Don’t be like frank !!! ….. the seal will be removed by this afternoon and the beach will be perfectly safe for dogs once removed ….. thanks for the unneeded scare mongering !!!
Maybe go vegan then frank because no animals have been tested !!! As most of our nhs staff !!! Or plants for that matter …..??? It does need removing and is sad but seriously let’s not blow this out of proportion!! Once the poor seal has been removed , the area will be fine for dog walks !! No need to cause concern amongst an already wary community!!! I for one will be taking my hours exercise with my dog at about 4 ….
Stop being paronied , animals die and behave in their own way, it’s not unusual for sea life to end in this way, but it’s upsetting….
I loved all his music RIP Seal
I know its sad but —– Don’t Cry
Well said Concerned Henry and Claire! The world is a scary place as it is, we don’t need someone scaring the people of Bembridge over a poor seal thats sadly lost its life.
RIP seal ❤
I just hope for Frank’s sake he stops using the internet!
I know its sad but there is no point blubbering about it!
My husband saw one swimming around Cowes yesterday, hope it’s not the same one
How sad! ☹️ I just hope it died from natural causes?!
