Emergency services have been called to a road traffic collision involving a cyclist, a Skoda and a Honda at Smallbrook Roundabout in Ryde.
The incident has occurred on the roundabout itself, with a bicycle wedged under the front of a white Skoda Roomster. A signpost has also been flattened.
The vehicles are partially off the road on an area of grass.
The road remains open at this time but traffic is heavy in the area.
Emergency services are not yet on scene.
UPDATE @ 16:55 – The driver of the Skoda, an elderly male, is currently still in the vehicle and is being assessed by paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
2 fire appliances from Ryde Fire Station are now on scene alongside police.
Ashey Road has been closed between Smallbrook Statium and Smallbrook Roundabout. Traffic is now having to divert locally.
UPDATE @ 17:05 – The driver of the Skoda is now out of the vehicle. He has not required extricating.
It is understood that the 2 vehicles collided, resulting in the Skoda driving over the bicycle which was being fixed at the side of the road. Luckily, the cyclist has escaped any injury.
Emergency services are now starting to stand down from the incident and roads are expected to re-open in due course.
UPDATE @ 17:30 – An eyewitness has told Island Echo that the cyclist was repairing his bicycle at the side of the road when the collision happened.
Luckily for the cyclist, he was not on the bike at the time of the incident.

Such a dangerous roundabout
It’s not dangerous if people use them properly?
So with 4 drivers looking at each other who goes first ?, this not unusual.
When they all arrive at about the same time there is no proper answer.
If 4 rocked up at the same time and stopped, and then all went at the same time, the damage wouldn’t be anything like the picture in this article. Someone didn’t stop or even slow down looking at the damage to that roomster.
The guy that T-Bone me on the roundabout didn’t know how to use it
Many drivers treat the roundabout if it’s not there! Not even slowing down?
Not dangerous at all if you are careful
Just wait until over a thousand new homes are shoe horned into this corner of Ryde.
Accidents, you ain’t seen nothing yet.
God help your children.
They ‘may’ end up with a shoe box home, but quality of life will be dire.
See it how it is, NOT how the ‘artists impression’ of the site wishes it to be portrayed. BIG difference.
Not a great roundabout – I go through every day and it is amazing how often vehicles pull out in front of you. Plus – taking care there on Monday morning – I had the pleasure of being horned at and abused by the girl in the metallic red Micra behind me because I was giving way to cars with right of way!
Nah…nice thinking Pete but the “Muppet” wasn’t injured, so they will probably just buy another bloody bike!
There is without doubt an element who have not a clue how to use a roundabout, but having said that this particular roundabout is Dangerous with poor visibility, even if you know how to use a roundabout no one has the ability to see through hedges!
If you actually pull up and STOP at the junction there are no hedges in the way, you can see in all directions
Shouldn’t the headline be “CYCLIST NOT INVOLVED IN 2 CAR CRASH AT SMALLBROOK ROUNDABOUT”?
Needs a traffic light system there to avoid those who just ignore the roundabout hoping they wont hit another vehicle or cannot work out it is give way to vehicles on the right. Glad no one was seriously injured, but please IOW council sort out this constant accident black spot.
It is a dangerous junction as there is poor visibility, when approaching the roundabout, of the other roads. Today I was shouted by a female in a mini for having the audacity to slow down and stop.
What about the sign post was it ok will it make a recovery
