Emergency services, including the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, are attending the incident alongside the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service. They were called to the scene at around 12:30.
3 ambulances, a rapid response paramedic, 3 fire appliances from Newport, Ventnor and Ryde and the rescue tender from Newport are on scene with the assistance of the Police.
The road has been closed in both directions and traffic to and from Ventnor is to divert via Godshill and Wroxall until further notice.
Southern Vectis’ Route 6 has been affected.
UPDATE @ 13:33 – 2 vehicles – a red 4×4 pick up and a dark blue Crossover – have collided head on outside Dean Farm. The crossover has come to a rest on a bank.
Island Echo understands the crossover – a Nissan – swerved to avoid a car that was pulling onto the carriageway.
2 casualties are being conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by ambulance, with a third and less injured individual expected to be conveyed shortly.
None of the injuries are thought to be life-threatening.
UPDATE @ 13:57 – A total of 3 people have now been taken to St Mary’s Hospital with what are being described as ‘minor’ injuries. 2 of those people have been extricated from the Nissan by means of the removal of the car doors.
Emergency teams have now stood down from the incident.
Recovery has been arranged and the road is expected to reopen swiftly after.
