A multi-vehicle shunt is causing traffic delays on a main road between Arreton and Sandown this afternoon (Thursday). Emergency crews were called to the A3056 near The Fighting Cocks just before 15:00. The incident has seen several cars, including a Suzuki, Mercedes, Mazda and BMW collide into the back of one another. The damage sustained to each vehicle is relatively minor. Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance alongside officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary and firefighters from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are all present at the scene. Several of those involved are out of their vehicles and are talking to emergency service personnel. Motorists are advised to avoid the area for the time being. UPDATE @ 16:30 – Firefighters are working to extricate a single casualty from 1 of the vehicles involved amid fears that they have a ‘spinal injury’. The road is currently blocked.

Speed kills, nice straight road…..
A old age person was driving’s with due care attention and this is just the start of are problems on the roads
I’m guessing that you were an eye-witness to the incident?
No, he was at spelling lessons
Your point might have more impact if your grasp of grammar and spelling was better
If the old person “WAS” driving with due care and attention, what’s the problem????…idiot!!!
it may be that your a bit stupide and your one of these young drivers That can’t drive but think your the best of all island drivers. twat
Translation please.
Are you on day release or just plain stupid??
Cant you speak English?
Writing is not speaking you idiot.
If you cant speak it you cant write it, you moron
Can’t NOT cant or it should be can not
What a complete and utter idiot you have just made yourself look.
HOW, IF they were paying due care and attention, HOW, can it be they are at fault, have you got a nursery Mummy should be taking you to today.
What a PLONKER
Just stating a fact the old person was not in the wrong my name not Kev
Yeah, it’s fine until some P1$$ head pulls out of the Fighting Cocks without looking…
Question ?
as Drinking and Driving don’t go together, Should Pubs have Car Parks ??
I drove past pretty much as the incident had just happened.
Looked like a car towing a trailer with a large van on it went into the back of a couple of cars.
Maybe the first one was indicating into the pub and the towing car piled into them.
I expect the police will be looking into gross train weight of the car and trailer (+large van onboard)
Road completely shut don’t go near you will have to turn round and most likely get stuck in traffic. Route to go is the downs if going towards Sandown
Joking aside, what is wrong with these useless incompetent drivers, are they thick?. Yet again insurance will get involved then the rest of us pay more car insurance to subsidise these prats. Youngsters driving erratic, checking mobile phone or female driver in her own little world checking lipstick or old farts high on prescription medicine and don’t know what day it is. Take your pick?. Oh I’m middle age so in my prime lol.
Mate your names Edward pipe down
Ahh yes, I am past middle age so I recognise your arrogance!
Sorry but do you ACTUALLY know what happened??
Edward- I feel sorry for you! The reason I feel sorry for you is that you see the bad side of things and assume the worst in people. Sorry to disappoint you but I know what actually happened and it was an accident, as simple as that!
Wow again and again and again and again 20 is plenty. That road has always been dangerous should be 20 mph
Let’s be real here, if the lights are on and nobody’s home, the speed won’t necessarily matter. It’ll just be a 20mph accident. It happened because these people were obviously not paying attention. If all the roads were on 20mph limits, we’d have even more slow motion shunts.
More like Stop tailgating, that’ll teach them
It’s a straight road what a stupid thing to say driving on island is slow enough anyway. You just need to drive properly and look and use your dam indicator always it’s not hard
Usual stupid islanders driving too close to the car in front. I like to brake erratically to stop these idiots from driving up my arse and that wakes them up. They just don’t know how to drive. Roundabouts are like Russian roulette too. They just close their eyes and floor it because they are too dumb to understand some simple rules.
So many Numpty’s driving on our roads.
yep and it’s all islanders
They need to take a refresher test
Tailgating can kill, idiots everywhere on the island….Thanks for forcing our insurance up again….
Not going to take advice from a saddo
Stop looking in the mirror then, idiot….
Had a guy in Yarmouth try to overtake a parked car and me, with a lorry coming the other way and me waiting for the lorry to come, he pulled out so far away that he struggled to get back in behind me. Bearing in mind there was a car and a van Infront of me that went around the parked car. Terrible driving.
Very very poor standard of driving on the island. Needs to change as the insurance rates are now increasing here due to risks and claims.
Excuse me but I’m Freddie ! , the one and only, some hate me some love me but I don’t recall ever calling people a cut .
I personally never comment,and won’t again.
My question!! Why do people have to be so critical of others, and nasty..never ever giving their true names and identity.. My name is Rob Hemper and proud of it.If I have something to say.I will put my name along side it.and not hide behind,” Joe bloggs” for example.
Despite all other comments, those following, whatever the issue at the front, must have been too close together
I wonder if it was at the Watery Lane Crossroads by the Fighting Cocks, It a nightmare sometimes to pull out onto the main road there. With the speed of traffic on that main road its like trying to cross the M1
I constantly get idiots in VW golfs, and fords with silly pop and bang remaps sitting on my back seat idiot driving
Come on Kev get another Focus and remember how fun it was…IMO cars are too quiet and easy to drive now, its like watching telly, so you end up daydreaming. Instead of concentrating hard because you have shit breaks, no ABS skinny tyres, stalls under 1500revs, steering pulls to the left and its cold with a fuzzy radio. Yep 1st car was an old Beetle 😉
More amasing driving on this isle..well done to all.
Why I always drive old bangers (which I ensure are 100% road worthy), half the time if anyone hit my car I may not even notice. Funny when my old banger passes MOT first time and 5 year old car fails on tires and brakes. Maintenance of a car includes checking your car once a month and checking the state of the tyres. Don’t leave it to be close to the limit, it’s already too late by then.
Drive it like you stole it.Nice one.More soon please.
Love this bit of road can normally do at least a ton twenty here no problem but you older and inexperienced drivers please stick to a maximum of forty.Remember speed kills.
We often read stories in the paper that are not true but make for a great story! The account written here is true ( be it that more details could have been disclosed!) What upsets me is the awful comments and assumptions made about how the accident occurred. My Mum was the lady cut out of the car and so I think this entitles me to comment and say ‘ the accident was an accident- there was no foul play on anyone’s part. Simply the brakes failing on the vehicle causing the accident! Please find facts before writing people and their actions off! Some of these comments are malicious and nasty, and especially difficult for those involved in the accident to read.
