UPDATED: Police, fire and ambulance crews are responding to a 2-car road traffic collision on Fairlee Road, Newport this afternoon (Tuesday).
The incident has occurred at Binfield, close to the entrance for Island Harbour.
2 fire appliances are on scene indicating a casualty is feared trapped within a vehicle
Motorists should avoid the area with traffic reported to be at a standstill.
UPDATE @ 13:18 – Thankfully, the incident is not as serious as first thought by emergency services. 1 person has been helped from their car and taken to St Mary’s Hospital by ambulance.
The 2 vehicles imvolved – a Toyota Yaris and a Ford KA – have been moved into a lay-by.
Emergency teams have now stood down however Police remain on scene awaiting recovery services.
Fairlee Road has now fully re-opened and traffic is flowing freely in both directions.
