A car has sustained significant damage and oil is leaking onto the carriageway following a single vehicle collision on Ashey Road this morning (Sunday).
Police have closed the road in both directions as a result of the white Ford Fiesta colliding with a tree and spinning 180 degrees.
The incident has occurred on a down hill section of road leading from The Downs into Ashey.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service is on scene with a crew from Ryde working to make the area safe. Environment Agency spill kits are being utilised to contain the oil spill.
Firefighters are also carrying out first aid to the occupants of the vehicle, although no one is thought to have been seriously injured. The car’s airbags deployed during the crash.
No other vehicles are thought to have been involved in the incident, which occurred at just gone 08:30.
Ashey Road is likely to remain closed for sometime to allow for the recovery of the Fiesta and the clearing up of oil from the carriageway.
