Firefighters were mobilised at normal driving speeds to Lower Road in Adgestone at around 20:45 following reports of a cow stuck in a ditch near the River Yar.
A number of resources were mobilised to the scene at Adgestone Farm, including the animal/water rescue unit from Newport.
Crews spent over 2 hours on scene but their efforts were not in vain as the animal was successfully rescued.
Crews from Red Watch Newport and Sandown worked to free a heifer from a ditch in Adgestone at 11pm last night using specialist large animal rescue equipment. Working with a vet they sedated the heifer and lifted here to an area of safety to sleep off the sedation.
