The Leader of the Isle of Wight Council has publicly rejected claims circulating on social media suggesting a secret deal with the Government to house thousands of migrants in exchange for financial support.
The post, which has been widely shared online, alleged that Councillor Phil Jordan was negotiating a ‘back door deal’ worth £2million to prevent the authority from going bankrupt, in return for accommodating large numbers of migrants on the Isle of Wight.
It also claimed such a move would ‘destroy’ the tourism industry and lead to significant job losses, while questioning whether any council member could deny the allegations.
In response, Councillor Jordan has issued a clear and direct denial, stating that the claims are entirely false and misleading.
Phil Jordan, Leader of Isle of Wight Council, has said:
“There is absolutely, categorically, no truth in this post. I am not involved in any such discussions or negotiations with anyone, let alone Government and/or secretly.
“The council have applied (and been granted) exceptional financial support by government to assist in the finaicial position but the allegations being made here are simply mistruths. They are dangerously misleading”.
No evidence has been provided to support the claims made in the original social media post.
Let’s not go down the rabbit hole of chasing social media posts for goodness sake! Especially what sounds like an anonymous posting.
What is needed are facts that can be verified.
Unfortunately, in these modern times, the vast majority of social media posts, and informaiorn from certain of the ‘media’ outlets, are like Trump’s proclamations,…. Mostly fake!
When are social media posts ever factual?! There’s so many mistruths posted on Facebook and people are gullible enough to believe them. All the garbage written about Island Roads springs to mind…
I think it’s a case of when, not if… We (the Island) have been incredibly lucky so far. There are (recently) empty hotels all over the place whose owners (particularly those residing abroad) would be very happy to be thousands of pounds to accommodate migrants.
We need to keep a close eye and be ready to battle for the sake of our women and children.
Not all migrants are troublesome.
Clearly this is about illegal immigrants, not legal migrants!

It doesn’t take many brain cells to work out that IF a £2m bung was given to house ‘thousands’ of migrants the total cost would be far more than the £2m bung…not a very effective sop for the bankruptcy they also erroneously presume will come.
Almost as bad as £350m for the NHS, or that the fishermen will be ‘taking back control and RICH!

Pray then please explain why general consensus or local opinion is as follows: It is considered that the allocation of social housing first priority is given to Migrants, followed by the local Populace and finally Tents are given out to the Homeless? shame on who is responsible for the prioritising,
because ‘general consensus’ is based on ‘local opinion’,
& local opinion, is based on ‘what Fred down the pub said’, or ‘what Zoe posted on social media’,.. all of which is spread about and amplified by conspiracy theorists, and people who are content to blindly accept what they hear from Facebook, the Express, or GB News, as fact, and not bother to check if it’s actually true before passing it on….

The ‘general consensus’ was that Brexit would be a good idea – look where that has left us.
If the government wants illegals here, there is nothing Jordan or anyone else can do to stop it I’m afraid. What with 3 care homes closed recently. I wonder where these illegals will be put.
