Firefighters have responded to a reported fire at HMP Isle of Wight this evening (Tuesday), with fears prisoners may have been trapped inside.
4 pumping appliances from Newport, East Cowes and Cowes were mobilised to Parkhurst prison at 18:02, with an Aerial Ladder Platform and Incident Command Unit also sent to the scene.
It was feared that persons – either prisoners or staff – were trapped inside the building where the fire had been reported.
The incident has been quickly brought under control with the use of a single hose reel jet.
No one is thought to have been injured.
Any fire in a confined space causes concern, but a major incident at Albany prison in February 2015 – just over 8 years ago to the day – has left lasting memories for prison staff and firefighters alike. The fire caused significant damage and nearly killed multiple incarcerated individuals, with 15 people injured and 4 taken to hospital.

Concerns for prisoners? I’m not concerned about them
I’m concerned for you. You need some love in your life, some compassion. If not you’re a psychopath and even then I hope you get the hep you need.
If your that concerned for the rapists, peados and murderers in there i think your the one that needs some serious help, My concerns are for the poor staff that have to deal with the scum everyday.
Let them burn in hell
Spot on. They’re all volunteers.
