Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team responded to reports of 3 swimmers in difficulty at Egypt Point near Cowes earlier this evening (Friday).
Solent Coastguard requested officers conduct a search of the shore close to the New Holmwood Hotel after receiving a report that 3 people had been seen to enter the water, but not return.
With fears that the individuals could be in danger, a shoreline search was carried out between Cowes and Gurnard.
Thankfully, nothing untoward was found and a member of the public reported seeing 2 people come ashore safely.
Ventnor CRT has since stood down from the incident, the second of the day following a search at Niton Undercliff this afternoon.
Islanders should follow Government instructions at all times. Swimming in the sea is not an acceptable form of exercise during the coronavirus crisis.
If you or someone else is in difficulty on the coast or at sea, or if you spot what you think may be unexploded ordnance, then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Further safety information can be found at https://coastguardsafety.campaign.gov.uk/.

RWhat is wrong with these people? Don’t they understand simple rules? They just put other people’s lives in danger. Stay at home. Is it that difficult?
And what happened to the third one?
Two out of three ain’t bad, so sung Meatloaf.
So did they get fined ?
3rd 1 was a mermaid going home
Does this mean I can go kayaking? Team yak needs to know!
These people were told to stay at home and not only have they disobeyed the rules they have now used the services of The Coast Guard and probably other emergency services these people should be fined or even better made to pay for the waste of the services that they had in attendance. I agree the weather was absolutely superb today but the message was stay at home
We might have a chance of people obeying the advice to stay at home, if politicians actually followed their own advice???
so, for the permitted daily exercise, you can walk, run, cycle, but you can’t swim? during your exercise, you can stop and stand looking out to sea, but you cant sit down, especially on the beach.
this is getting too confusing.
Exactly! Swimming in the sea is better than walking, running and cycling past people surely. I don’t get it.
Unless you need help obviously then others are put at risk
Probably D.F.L s
Darwin breathes a sigh of relief as another twat doesn’t procreate
Why did they not leave them
just unbelievable SELFISH
Migrants coming ashore with the virus no doubt.
Once again a blatant disregard to the rules and yet again they were not fined, what is the point in having these consequences put in place if they are not being used or even better charge them for the waste of time caused to the coast guard.
Maybe if the fines were being issued people would think twice and not just think they’ll get away with it.
Why is that disregarding the rules? They were exercising. We’re allowed one form of exercise a day
Aahhh………another Local with SFB.
So we’re allowed 1 form of exercise a day but swimming is not one of them?! It’s ok to walk, run and cycle past people with sweat and breath particles getting on people but being in the sea is not acceptable?!? Just ridiculous
Nothing wrong with your argument, but why in the hell would anyone in their right mind want to go swimming!? It must be freezing!!
For those morons complaining that swimming in the sea is acceptable tell that to the people who have to put the lives
at risk to rescue them. I have never known so many moronic cretins on the island have they all come from
the mainland.
As long as they were 2 meters apart no problem. Allowed to outdoor exercise for one hour. I
It looks like most of the people who live here nowadays have come down to live from the mainland. Unless the Isle of Wight accent is actually sounding like Yorkshire or Lancaster accents?
And… your point is?
What’s wrong with the northern accent may I ask !!! And what difference would it make how you talk, it’s the actions of idiots not what they sound like !!!! Idiot
Ron asked if the people here had all come from the mainland, and I made the truthful answer that many of them have northern accents so must have come from the mainland.
Now if the same number of people went to live somewhere up north from down here, they’d be hardly noticed and swallowed up by a much larger area, but the Island is such a small geographical area and so hordes of people coming to live down here from the mainland can’t happen without it making an appreciable difference to the Island’s landscape, with all the homes being built to accommodate all the people who want to come and live here. So much of our countryside being built on to provide little boxes for so many people to move into.
And there have been plenty of occasions when I’ve heard of people from the south, being told to get back to where they came from by people up north, so please don’t start with the you have the right to go live wherever you want without anyone daring to question it.
If it could happen without it making any difference to the environment it wouldn’t matter at all, but so much has been destroyed and still being destroyed to build all these homes because of the “demand” for them.
