HM Coastguard are conducting a search of the beach at Shanklin this lunchtime (Saturday) following the discovery of a pile of clothing.
Coastguard Rescue Officers from Bembridge and Ventnor are on scene at the far end of the Esplanade with the first team responding through The Bay area at around 12:05.
A shoreline search is underway.
It is the second call out in the past 24 hours for the search and rescue teams, who last night rescued a man climbing the cliff at Culver Down.
UPDATE @ 14:20 – The search has now been called off with both Bembridge and Ventnor teams continuing their Mutual Aid patrols of the coast.
Police have collected the items of clothing from the beach.

Some people dont seem to get the idea that there actions ends up involving other people putting there lifes on the line to help the selfish people
I agree Mary people don’t get it
I can get hives if it’s a particularly garish cheap Primark pattern but picking up clothes rarely endangers lives.
Only if the person who the clothes belong to are in difficulties in the sea and may need rescueing
Let’s hope it was not just someone skinny dipping. Be embarrassing walking home now.
