Coastguard Rescue Officers from Ventnor and The Needles, Police and volunteers from Yarmouth RNLI battled the elements in a bid to locate a suicidal individual in the South Wight overnight.
At around 23:30 last night (Friday), HM Coastguard were requested to assist Hampshire Constabulary in locating a vulnerable person somewhere along a remote stretch of coast between Chale and Atherfield.
Search teams battled against challenging weather conditions for several hours, but a full cliff top and shoreline search stretching from Blackgang to Brighstone failed to locate any persons.
Yarmouth RNLI assisted by carrying out a search on the water, sweeping up and down the coastline as far south as St Carherine’s Point.
With nothing found, all resources were stood down.
