Islanders are being urged to check their electoral registration details or risk losing their chance to vote on decisions that affect them.
Residents will shortly receive a letter from the council, asking them to confirm that the names of people listed as eligible to vote in their household are correct.
Being on the electoral register means that you don’t lose your voice, and can vote in future elections – plus it can also help with your credit rating.
The annual canvass ensures that the Isle of Wight Council can keep the electoral register up to date, identifying any residents who are not registered so that they can be encouraged to do so.
Claire Shand, the council’s electoral registration officer, said:
“It’s important that residents keep an eye out for letters from us which start arriving from the 24th July onwards, so we can make sure we have the right details on the electoral register for every address on the Island.
“To make sure you are able to have your say at any future elections, simply follow the instructions in your letter. It’s very quick and easy.”
“If you’re not currently registered, your name will not appear in the letters or forms we send. If you want to register, the easiest way is online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote, or we’ll send you information explaining how to do this in the post. Once registered, they would then be able take part in any future elections.”

People who have recently moved are particularly encouraged to look out for the voter letter from the council, and check the details.
Research by the Electoral Commission indicates that recent home movers are far less likely to be registered than those who have lived at the same address for a long time.
Across Britain, 92% of people who have been at their property for more than 16 years will be registered, compared to 36% of people who have lived at an address for less than a year.

So many do not make the effort to vote on the IOW. It’s very important to do so. If you don’t vote, don’t complain about anything!
Many perhaps rightly, now feel that whoever you vote for will make no, or little difference. We are swamped with illegals under the Tories, and likely as many if not far more under Labour.
The workshy now know if they have a child or two, they will ONLY have to get one partner (if not claiming as many do, to be ‘single parents to up the income), to work 16hours, to then claim a full wage in tax credits or universal credit, and get all their rent and council tax paid, along with free school meals, free transportation to schools, free uniforms, free dental care and prescriptions for the entire family, extra help with eating and heating, even more if one, as they do, child has a ‘syndrome’, then disability car etc etc.
OMG, thankfully someone else can see what is happening. That is also the reason businesses now find it so hard to recruit staff, as many parents are better off NOT working FULL TIME, or if they do, are only marginally so.
So if you have a choice of ONE of the parents doing 20hrs work a week, and having all the rest of the week to do whatever you wish, AND being no worse off, as all housing costs met, along with the other free essentials of life, then you would be a fool to work full time.
Add to that, many then work on the sly, and/or deal in drugs etc, their income, all tax free is massive, yet they are ‘seen’ by the media a ‘victims’

wilbur, and those on these benefits even get FREE gym membership at the Heights, so when we have to turn out and work in cold weather they can spend a day their in the sauna all for free.
As you say, they don’t need or want to work more than the minimum hours so now businesses can’t find enough people to work, so they bring in imm’s, yet very soon ‘they too’ jump on the bandwagon, so they then have to bring in even more imm’s and the cycle is set, arrive here, work, get a kid, claim benefits do a ‘few’ hours and have an easly life, but all these newcomers need homes, take resources, add to land fill, traffic, and cause green fields to be built on. So Gov should cut benefits to make OUR workshy work FULL time.
They should abolish benefits.
Persons who cannot afford to have children should not have them.
Why should hard working families pay all these costs to families who
dont’ want to work.
If social houses were not provided rent free for such families they would not
keep popping out more sprogs.

I for one would have rejected the wasted costs spent on the Ryde Interchange.

Bring back Poll Tax
Why should small families pay the same amount of Council Tax as
large families.
Large families generate more waste, and large families take up more parking spaces
than small familes
The system is out of date and unfair.
Why should a family of 3 pay the same amount of Council Tax that a family of 6 pay.
Let’s not even talk about all the large families on benefits who pay zero council tax and
get everything for else for nothing plus other benefits, and some even get new vehicles.

The way things are the strongest vote is no vote…
Why vote for any of them, they will not do anything the people want at all, just in it for the photo opps, power, and the nice new linings in the pockets. I won’t been voting at all, waste of my time, and I can still complain and moan as much as I like, they can’t take that away from anyone….. well not yet anyway.
Rather than complain about the council, why not stand as a candidate. You could all put everything right then.
Then the W E F would get you under their wing.
