Emergency services have responded to a reported cell fire at HMP Isle of Wight this evening (Sunday).
2 appliances from Newport, 1 from Cowes and 1 from East Cowes, an Aerial Ladder Platform from Newport and the Incident Command Unit from Newport were mobilised to Parkhurst prison at 17:29.
It was reported to the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service that a fire had broken out in a prisoner’s cell. However, according to fire control, the fire was already out upon arrival of the first crews.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are now standing down, as are the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.

Incompetent comes to mind here, is it really possible that HMP’s are unaquiped, untrained, and have no system in place to put a fire out in a single cell?.
Four appliances from three different locations on the Island attending a fire in a single cell at parkhust, time to sack the Governor…
Just a suggestion here… maybe there is an automatic fire alarm system in place ( like St Marys) where it is compulsory for the fire brigade to attend if the fire alarm goes off… whether it be a false alarm, or for real….. and yes, I’m sure HMPs are equipped and trained in such matters.Getting into a prison is almost as hard as getting out.
thick as s–t comes to mind with you .
Why? What would have happened then if it got out of control.
The Prison did sort it. The fire & Rescue will be responding as soon as the alarm sounds, they don’t phone the Prison first to see if they can cope. The alarm could have been for the entire wing on fire, how would they know?
All linked up to a central system, you clearly have no clue how anything works within very large establishments, even some small businesses are linked up to the fire station’s, things like that can easily get out of hand very quickly and lets face it your not dealing with the norm here in a prison !!!!
Lets hope staff safe but less low life to keep now.
Hope little shit who start fire got burnt
