Vecta House Care Home in Newport was filled with the vibrant spirit of the carnival last weekend, as residents, families and staff enjoyed a colourful indoor celebration despite the gloomy weather.
The home was transformed into a tropical paradise with bright decorations and a festive atmosphere, bringing joy to all who attended.
Now in its second year, the event was originally created to bring the excitement of the Isle of Wight Carnival to residents who may not be able to attend the main parade. Following the success of last year’s celebration – supported by Ann Abe, a dancing instructor for Dance Vibez and a dedicated member of the Isle of Wight carnival community – the tradition continued with enthusiasm.
This year’s festivities began with residents being welcomed with floral garlands, setting the tone for a cheerful day. One of the highlights was a vibrant performance by members of the Isle of Wight carnival community, who showcased their elaborate and creative costumes in an unforgettable show.
Lively music and dancing continued throughout the afternoon, with a variety of performers contributing to the festive atmosphere. A mini carnival parade made its way through the care home, ensuring all residents could enjoy the celebration up close.
Tanya Everson, Lifestyle Leader at Vecta House, has said:
“The smiles on our residents’ faces said it all.
“It was truly a heart-warming day, seeing everyone singing, clapping, and having a wonderful time. We are so grateful to Ann Abe and the entire Isle of Wight carnival community for helping us make this day so special.”
