A carer from Shanklin who was unaware she was disqualified from driving has been handed a further 3-month driving ban.
Loretta Meade, 26, of Park Road in Shanklin, admitted driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance when she appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates last week (29th August).
Prosecuting, Serena Edwards, told the court that on the evening of 18th July Police stopped Meade in her Ford Focus on Newport Road in Godshill after checks revealed that she was a disqualified driver.
The court heard how just a few weeks prior, Meade was handed a 28-day ban for a speeding offence, but when questioned by Police, Meade said she was unaware that she had been banned.
Defending Meade, Oscar Vincent, told the court that his client had got her dates mixed up and believed that she wasn’t to be sentenced until the 30th July. He also added that Meade’s employer had told her that if she were to lose her licence then she would most likely lose her job.
Judge David Robinson imposed a 3-month driving ban and ordered the mother of 2 pay an £825 fine, £364 surcharge fee and court costs of £85.

This fine is really hefty. You would not hear of things like this on the police programmes, where people tear own the wrong side of the motorway and chase through towns at break-neck speeds and just get a £150 fine. What is the world coming to. I urge this motorist to start a go fund me page.
Really? She may be related to you but she wasn’t insured and ignored her ban. Should have been banned for much longer.
Why is it too heavy? She broke the law? Serves her right.
Day after day people complain about the paltry sentences handed down in our courts. Now, when a realisic penalty is imposed the immedate response is that it is too much and there should be a whip round to pay it for the offender. Is there, perhaps, a little gender bias here?
How does one forget they are banned!
That’s a good one.
Maybe this might jolt her memory?
