Police, fire and ambulance crews have been called to Ashey Road in Ryde this lunchtime (Saturday) where a car has overturned after crashing into the rear of a parked vehicle.
The driver of the Hyundai i10 is currently trapped inside the overturned car, which has prompted a response by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue crews.
The Hyundai has come to a rest on the driver’s side after smashing into the rear of a black Suzuki Swift.
Police have closed the road in both directions as firefighters and paramedics work to free the individual from the overturned car using a spinal board.
2 fire appliances from Ryde and Newport are in attendance alongside the Response Support Vehicle from Newport. Firefighters have deployed stabilisation gear to ensure the car doesn’t move.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has an enhanced care paramedic, an ambulance crew and an operational commander on scene.
The incident happened shortly before 12:30 close to the junction with Wray Street.
UPDATE @ 13:02 – 1 elderly male has been removed from the vehicle through the boot space.
The casualty is now on board the ambulance and is being assessed by paramedics. He is not thought to have suffered any serious injuries.
Ashey Road remains closed between Bettesworth Road and Swanmore Road but is expected to reopen shortly once the crashed vehicle has been recovered.

How do so many people crash on the island into parked cars…….ridiculous.
surrendered licence is the outcome here!
One crash to late
Ok so the driver is not injured so why did they not just right the vehicle, then pry the door open ???…
Obviously chap needs an eye test and to learn the width of own vehicle.. the latter many drivers need to learn about the vehicle they drive… because in general many do not have a clue…
Well to be honest it’s a nightmare down there thought there would b a accident sooner or later there are so many parked cars everywhere
Just too many idiot drivers who clearly cannot drive or control a vehicle, how do you hit a parked car unless you are not fully aware of your surroundings?
The driver may have had spinal injuries, that’s why.
Meanwhile, a person has been laid on the pavement in lake, by the traffic lights, (seemingly being cared for by members of the public) for over an hour, with no ambulance in sight …
Why, you have to ask, is there an ambulance parked in the Upper high street or Well street, unattended I might add, most evenings, it is too regular to he on a call, hope it wasnt their turn on call for this person.
Hopefully this will beinvestigated
The mighty motorist strikes again, at least an elderly gentleman wouldn’t have a big bore exhaust to disturb the peace as he scraped along the tarmac, though being on the island – this incident must have been beautiful.
Whatonearth is wrong with these people?
Drug driving again on are little shell
Ur the biggest pot head going
Anit you that weird cleaner who rides the bike and smokes all day
I presume you mean’t “our” little shell. Appalling grammar!
Sorry Stuart please forgive me
More idiots will be along soon..
My sympathy is with the nipper who owns the Suzuki. Suddenly you have no wheels for work.
A couple of hours after this another blind motorist decided to ignore the no entry signs and written no entry at Swanmore Road near Osborne Road, then looked really shocked when she was greeted by an oncoming motorist going the right way who politely informed her it was a ONE WAY ROAD!!!!. Priceless,
We have awful drivers like that round here too. I’m one of them.
every day a car overturns? how is this possible..never had this 10/15 years ago..oh by the way you can’t park there mate.
This is what happens when you slash the police force to ‘save’ money. Until we get a true democracy we’ll just get more of the same the red or the blues. All they want to do is put money in their banks.
